Calculate TIR in Hours/Day

%
Enter TIR as a percentage from 0 to 100. The calculator will show equivalent time in hours and minutes.

Clinical Significance

Time in Range (TIR) is the percentage of time glucose stays within the target range, commonly 70 to 180 mg/dL for many nonpregnant adults using CGM.

Converting TIR into hours and minutes makes CGM data easier to understand in practical daily terms and helps communication with patients and care teams.

Formula and Example

This calculator converts TIR percentage directly into time values using 24 hours per day and 7 days per week.

For example, 70% TIR corresponds to about 16.8 hours per day, which is usually rounded to about 17 hours per day.

Example: 70% TIR = 16.8 hours/day = 1,008 minutes/day = 117.6 hours/week.

Reference Interpretation

Below Common Target: Below 50% TIR. This suggests a substantial amount of time outside the usual target range and may warrant closer review of glucose patterns.
Intermediate TIR: From 50% to 69.9% TIR. This may reflect partial progress but remains below the commonly cited >70% target for many nonpregnant adults using CGM.
At or Above Common Target: 70% TIR or higher. This aligns with a commonly cited CGM target for many nonpregnant adults, though individual goals may differ.

Clinical Notes

TIR is best interpreted together with time below range, time above range, glucose variability, and the clinical goals of the specific patient.

  • A commonly cited CGM target for many nonpregnant adults is >70% TIR.
  • Seventeen hours per day in range is a practical way to visualize the 70% target.
  • TIR should be interpreted alongside hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia exposure, not by itself.
  • Individual goals may differ in pregnancy, older adults, or high-risk patients.
