ملاحظة مخبرية مهمة

This tool converts the units of an existing UPCR result. It does not calculate UPCR from separate urine protein and urine creatinine concentrations, convert UPCR into ACR, or determine 24-hour urine protein excretion.

Convert UPCR from mg/g to mg/mmol

To convert urine protein-to-creatinine ratio from mg/g to mg/mmol, multiply the UPCR result by 0.113.

For example, a UPCR value of 500 mg/g multiplied by 0.113 equals approximately 56.5 mg/mmol.

  • UPCR mg/mmol = UPCR mg/g × 0.113
  • 50 mg/g = approximately 5.65 mg/mmol
  • 100 mg/g = approximately 11.30 mg/mmol
  • 150 mg/g = approximately 16.95 mg/mmol
  • 500 mg/g = approximately 56.50 mg/mmol
  • 1000 mg/g = approximately 113.00 mg/mmol
  • 3500 mg/g = approximately 395.50 mg/mmol

Convert UPCR from mg/mmol to mg/g

To convert UPCR from mg/mmol to mg/g, divide the mg/mmol value by 0.113.

Dividing by 0.113 is equivalent to multiplying by approximately 8.85. The calculator uses the reciprocal of the same factor to keep both conversion directions consistent.

  • UPCR mg/g = UPCR mg/mmol ÷ 0.113
  • 5 mg/mmol = approximately 44.25 mg/g
  • 10 mg/mmol = approximately 88.50 mg/g
  • 15 mg/mmol = approximately 132.74 mg/g
  • 50 mg/mmol = approximately 442.48 mg/g
  • 100 mg/mmol = approximately 884.96 mg/g
  • 300 mg/mmol = approximately 2654.87 mg/g

Convert UPCR between mg/g, g/g, and mg/mg

UPCR may be displayed as mg/g, g/g, or mg/mg. The g/g and mg/mg formats are numerically equivalent because the numerator and denominator use the same mass scale.

To convert mg/g to g/g or mg/mg, divide by 1000. To convert g/g or mg/mg to mg/g, multiply by 1000.

  • UPCR g/g = UPCR mg/g ÷ 1000
  • UPCR mg/mg = UPCR mg/g ÷ 1000
  • UPCR mg/g = UPCR g/g × 1000
  • UPCR mg/g = UPCR mg/mg × 1000
  • 500 mg/g = 0.5 g/g = 0.5 mg/mg
  • 1000 mg/g = 1 g/g = 1 mg/mg
  • 3500 mg/g = 3.5 g/g = 3.5 mg/mg

Equivalent UPCR Reporting Units

Some urine protein-creatinine ratio units are mathematically equivalent even though their prefixes and denominator formats are different.

  • 1 mg/g creatinine equals 1 µg/mg creatinine.
  • 1 mg/mmol creatinine equals 1 g/mol creatinine.
  • 1 g/g creatinine equals 1 mg/mg creatinine.
  • 1 mg/g creatinine equals 1000 µg/g creatinine.
  • The numerator must represent total urine protein.
  • The denominator must represent urine creatinine.

UPCR Unit Converter versus UPCR Calculator

A UPCR unit converter changes the reporting unit of an already calculated urine protein-to-creatinine ratio. A UPCR calculator starts with separate urine protein and urine creatinine concentrations and calculates the ratio.

Use this page when the laboratory report already contains a UPCR, uPCR, PCR, or protein-creatinine index result.

  • Use the converter when the report already shows a ratio such as 500 mg/g.
  • Use the separate ACR/PCR calculator when urine protein and urine creatinine are listed separately.
  • Do not enter urine protein concentration alone as a UPCR result.
  • Do not enter urine creatinine concentration alone as a UPCR result.
  • Confirm the numerator and denominator units before calculating a new ratio.

How Urine Protein-to-Creatinine Ratio Is Calculated

UPCR compares the concentration of total protein in a urine specimen with the concentration of creatinine in the same specimen. This helps reduce the effect of urine dilution or concentration on the reported protein measurement.

When urine protein is reported in mg/L and urine creatinine in g/L, dividing protein by creatinine produces mg/g. When protein is reported in mg/L and creatinine in mmol/L, the resulting ratio is mg/mmol.

  • UPCR mg/g = urine total protein mg/L ÷ urine creatinine g/L
  • UPCR mg/mmol = urine total protein mg/L ÷ urine creatinine mmol/L
  • If protein and creatinine are both reported in mg/dL, their direct quotient is mg/mg.
  • A result in mg/mg can be multiplied by 1000 to obtain mg/g.
  • Protein and creatinine should be measured in the same urine specimen.

Difference between UPCR, uPCR, PCR, and ACR

UPCR, uPCR, urine PCR, and urine protein-to-creatinine ratio generally describe the same type of laboratory ratio: total urine protein divided by urine creatinine.

ACR is different because its numerator is urine albumin rather than total urine protein. Albumin is one component of total urinary protein, so an ACR value and a UPCR value must not be treated as interchangeable.

  • UPCR and uPCR mean urine protein-to-creatinine ratio.
  • PCR in this page means protein-to-creatinine ratio, not polymerase chain reaction.
  • ACR means albumin-to-creatinine ratio.
  • UPCR measures total urine protein.
  • ACR measures urine albumin specifically.
  • A unit conversion cannot convert UPCR into ACR.

UPCR Is Not the Same as 24-Hour Urine Protein

A spot urine UPCR is sometimes used clinically to approximate or monitor daily protein excretion, but UPCR and 24-hour urine protein are not identical measurements.

The relationship depends partly on daily creatinine excretion, which varies with age, sex, muscle mass, diet, health status, and urine collection conditions. Converting UPCR units does not produce an exact 24-hour protein result.

  • UPCR is a ratio measured from a urine specimen.
  • Twenty-four-hour urine protein is an amount collected over time.
  • A value in mg/g must not simply be relabeled as mg/day.
  • A value in g/g must not simply be relabeled as g/day.
  • Use a dedicated clinical method when an estimate of daily protein excretion is required.

UPCR Reference Values and Interpretation Limits

Reference limits for urine protein-to-creatinine ratio vary according to age, clinical setting, pregnancy status, laboratory method, kidney disease type, and the guideline being applied.

Some general adult educational references describe UPCR below approximately 150 mg/g as an expected range, but this should not be treated as a universal diagnostic threshold.

  • 150 mg/g converts mathematically to approximately 16.95 mg/mmol.
  • Disease-specific guidelines may use different treatment or monitoring thresholds.
  • Children and pregnant patients may require population-specific interpretation.
  • Glomerular diseases may use UPCR for response and remission criteria.
  • Always use the reference interval and clinical framework appropriate to the patient.

Clinical Context and Important Limitations

A converted UPCR value remains the same laboratory result expressed in another unit. Unit conversion does not determine the cause, severity, persistence, or clinical importance of proteinuria.

Protein excretion may vary between specimens, and an unexpected result may require confirmation according to the clinical context.

  • Use the analyte name and unit printed on the original laboratory report.
  • Confirm that the result represents total urine protein divided by urine creatinine.
  • Exercise, fever, infection, urinary tract inflammation, posture, hydration, and acute illness may affect urinary protein results.
  • Do not use an ACR reference interval to interpret UPCR.
  • Do not use this converter alone to diagnose nephrotic syndrome or chronic kidney disease.
  • Do not make treatment decisions from a converted value alone.
