How Urine Protein-to-Creatinine Ratio Is Calculated
UPCR compares the concentration of total protein in a urine specimen with the concentration of creatinine in the same specimen. This helps reduce the effect of urine dilution or concentration on the reported protein measurement.
When urine protein is reported in mg/L and urine creatinine in g/L, dividing protein by creatinine produces mg/g. When protein is reported in mg/L and creatinine in mmol/L, the resulting ratio is mg/mmol.

Difference between UPCR, uPCR, PCR, and ACR
UPCR, uPCR, urine PCR, and urine protein-to-creatinine ratio generally describe the same type of laboratory ratio: total urine protein divided by urine creatinine.
ACR is different because its numerator is urine albumin rather than total urine protein. Albumin is one component of total urinary protein, so an ACR value and a UPCR value must not be treated as interchangeable.
